Performance indoor cycle trainer delivers the real-life cycling feel of an outdoor bike but in a controlled, hard-pedaling indoor environment. The A.C. Performance is equipped with Virtual Contact resistance technology, an innovative system that employs magnets and an aluminum disk to generate resistance. This not only creates a tough, high-energy workout, but it also keeps the brake system from wearing out, helping the trainer hold up to long-term use. Furthermore, the chain-drive system and extra-large flywheel make it possible to adjust the resistance levels in continuous increments, making the pedaling feel smooth and authentic, just like riding on an undulating hill. And riders will love the dual-density saddle, which is fixed in some areas and flexible in others. This creates the ideal combination of comfort and stability, especially in conjunction with the horizontal and vertical seat adjustment.

awesome spin bike,
I have been spinning for about 8 years on a multitude of bikes. I bought this bike on the recommendation of one of the country’s best spin instructors (not exaggerating). It’s awesome. Very good feel of the wheel turn, great adjustability– hight, forward, backward, super comfortable saddle, easy to maintain, love the resistance variability, etc. I could go on and on. I’m guessing people who love this bike are too busy spinning to write the kinds of awesome reviews this bike deserves and generally receives on other sites.

Solid, Smooth and nearly perfect,
I researched and considered which stationary upright to purchase for over a year, and decided three factors were of critical importance: 1) magnetic resistance, 2) minimal maintenance, and 3) flexible adjustments so I can carefully replicate the geometry of my road bike. The AC Performance is the “flagship” spin bike from Schwinn and deserves that title. It arrived fully assembled and ready to ride (just had to connect the pedals). First impression was how stable it was and the flywheel allows very smooth resistance. The magnetic resistance is analog, intuitive, and doesn’t change during the ride (my complaint with every friction-resistance bike). The ability to stop the pedals (clutch) is a luxury. My kids will occasionally get a little close while I’m riding. The resistance knob also provides a “stop” function (press the knob and the flywheel stops almost immediately); another very welcome safety feature.
I have 20 hours or so on the bike at this point and can say I don’t miss all the digital readouts. I have always trained with heart rate monitors, GPS, cadence, METS equivalence, etc, and the absence of these displays is in improvement in many ways- I can pay more attention to how I feel, instead of the numbers.
I would encourage anyone interested in a high-quality spin trainer to consider the Performance. The quality is remarkable, and the ride is smooth. And if I wonder what my heart rate is, I’m not riding hard enough.
